{"id":1005,"date":"2014-05-24T17:46:21","date_gmt":"2014-05-24T17:46:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tenkmovies.com\/?p=1005"},"modified":"2021-02-19T20:58:02","modified_gmt":"2021-02-19T20:58:02","slug":"justice-for-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tenkmovies.com\/?p=1005","title":{"rendered":"Justice for all"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tenkmovies.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/05\/220px-billy_jack_poster.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1006 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/tenkmovies.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/05\/220px-billy_jack_poster.jpg?w=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0066832\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\">Billy Jack<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(1971)<\/p>\n<p>Billy Jack first appeared to little fanfare in\u00a0<em style=\"font-style: italic;\">Born Losers<\/em>\u00a0(1967), but erupted into the national consciousness in this schizophrenic film, defending a group of hippies from a corrupt local government.<\/p>\n<p>Billy responds to slight injustices with inappropriate levels of violence which is then met with more deplorable violence, culminating in\u00a0the son of the corrupt sheriff raping Billy&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Billy murders the perpetrator with a well placed judo chop to the throat.\u00a0The rest of the film is a long discussion about the merits of turning himself in peacefully versus going out in a blaze of glory.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, peace prevails; Billy Jack surrenders to police, setting up the sequel,\u00a0<em style=\"font-style: italic;\">The Trial of Billy Jack<\/em>\u00a0(1974),\u00a0an epic courtroom drama.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his work as Billy Jack, Tom Laughlin ran for President three times (as a Democrat in 1992, a Republican in 2004, and as a Democrat again in 2008).<\/p>\n<p>This film is noteworthy as one of the first American films to feature martial arts and for its progressive treatment of\u00a0Native Americans. \u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0an important bridge from outlaw films like\u00a0<em style=\"font-style: italic;\">Bonnie and Clyde<\/em>\u00a0(1967) and\u00a0<em style=\"font-style: italic;\">Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid<\/em>\u00a0(1969) to vigilante films like\u00a0<em>Dirty Harry\u00a0<\/em>(1971) and\u00a0<em style=\"font-style: italic;\">Death Wish<\/em>\u00a0(1974).<\/p>\n<p>However, the movie fails because it\u00a0can&#8217;t decide if it wants to justify violence or glorify peaceful resistance.
