Before Night Falls<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(2000)<\/p>\n

Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas (Javier Bardem) was an early\u00a0supporter of the Castro revolution, but his homosexuality led to his imprisonment and exile.<\/p>\n

This was Bardem’s\u00a0first major success, but he’s at his best playing cold-hearted killer’s like Anton Chigurh <\/a>or Raoul Silva<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Jonny Depp\u00a0is good in the dual roles of Bon Bon\u00a0and the sadistic Lt. Victor.\u00a0 This was pre-Jack Sparrow, when\u00a0Depp’s work was more subtle and complex.<\/span><\/p>\n

Julian Schanbel’s later film The Diving Bell and the Butterfly<\/em> (2007), about a paralyzed author who communicates by blinking his left eyelid, is a more interesting and original film.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

The movie is well made, but <\/span>feels like very other biopic:\u00a0misunderstood artist struggles against a culture which does not recognize or accept his genius.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Booze Hangs High<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(1930)<\/p>\n

Another\u00a0Looney Tunes<\/a><\/em> short featuring Bosko. This time, he’s a farmer who once again finds unusual ways to make music.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Flintstones<\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(2000)<\/p>\n

Mark Addy, best know as Robert Baratheon in Games of Thrones<\/em>, is a perfect Fred Flintstone, Stephen Baldwin turns in a career best performance as Barney Rubble; and Kristen Johnston is very good as Wilma Flintstone.<\/p>\n

The only weak link in the main cast is Jane Krakowski’s Betty Rubble.<\/p>\n

Both Johnston and Krakowski rose to\u00a0prominence as supporting players in comedies dominated by someone else. \u00a0Johnston’s post 3rd Rock from the Sun <\/em>career has been nonexistent outside of a memorable scene in the first Austin Powers film as Ivanna\u00a0Humpalot.\u00a0 Besides 30 Rock<\/em> and Ally McBeal<\/em>, this is the most visible thing\u00a0Krakowski’s done.<\/p>\n

Has Joan Collins every played anything but a snobby, rich woman?<\/p>\n

It was a wonderful gesture to cast Harvey Korman as Wilma’s grandfather since he voiced The Great Gazoo in the original series.<\/p>\n

This remains faithful to the spirit of the\u00a0source material<\/a> and is better than most episodes of the original series. Unlike the previous adaptation<\/a>, which came across as stunt casting, this movie benefited immensely from its lesser known cast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
