{"id":572,"date":"2014-04-06T03:15:14","date_gmt":"2014-04-06T03:15:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tenkmovies.wordpress.com\/?p=572"},"modified":"2021-02-22T19:57:08","modified_gmt":"2021-02-22T19:57:08","slug":"how-the-austrian-tried-to-get-her-groove-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tenkmovies.com\/?p=572","title":{"rendered":"How the Austrian tried to get her groove back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tenkmovies.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/04\/paradise_-_love_2012_film.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-597 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/tenkmovies.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/04\/paradise_-_love_2012_film.jpg\" alt=\"Paradise: Love (2012)\" width=\"212\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1403214\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1\">Paradise: Love<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(2012)<\/p>\n<p>Teresa, a bored fifty year old Austrian housewife goes on a vacation to Kenya where she pays numerous young African men to have sex with her.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sex_tourism\">Sex tourism<\/a>\u00a0is, unbelievably, a billion dollar a year industry; many in the poorest countries\u00a0of the world depend on this business to survive, and while it is dominated by men seeking young, female companionship,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Female_sex_tourism\">female sex tourism<\/a>\u00a0is a growing\u00a0phenomenon.<\/p>\n<p>I had sympathy for Teresa when the movie began: who doesn&#8217;t want to feel young\u00a0and desirable?\u00a0\u00a0However, as the film\u00a0progressed, it became clear this was more than\u00a0a midlife crisis.\u00a0 Teresa\u00a0wasn&#8217;t just interested in sex, but in the power her money gave her.\u00a0 She wanted complete control over her lovers, barking orders at them when they kissed her incorrectly.<\/p>\n<p>The director, Ulrich Seidl,\u00a0specifically chose Kenya as the destination because of the racial and\u00a0colonialist undertones.\u00a0 It wouldn&#8217;t have seemed quite as ugly if\u00a0Teresa had been paying white men in Holland for sex.<\/p>\n<p>As long as we continue to tolerate this exploitation, we&#8217;re perpetuating ideas we should find abhorrent: as if someone born into poverty in Africa is not worthy of the same dignity as someone born into the relative wealth of the western world.<\/p>\n<p>I want to pretend the hideousness of human sex trafficking occurs in the shadows, miles away from me and my family.\u00a0 However, this film serves as a warning about the prevalence of this vile and pernicious practice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Paradise: Love\u00a0(2012) Teresa, a bored fifty year old Austrian housewife goes on a vacation to Kenya where she pays numerous young African men to have sex with her.
