{"id":721,"date":"2014-04-22T01:18:51","date_gmt":"2014-04-22T01:18:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tenkmovies.com\/?p=721"},"modified":"2021-03-04T21:50:41","modified_gmt":"2021-03-04T21:50:41","slug":"calling-all-the-mortified","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tenkmovies.com\/?p=721","title":{"rendered":"Calling all the mortified"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tenkmovies.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/04\/the_call_poster.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-737 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/tenkmovies.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/04\/the_call_poster.jpg?w=202\" alt=\"The Call (2013)\" width=\"202\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1911644\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\">The Call<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(2013)<\/p>\n<p>Six months after her mistake inadvertently resulted in a young girl&#8217;s murder, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/9-1-1\">9-11 operator<\/a>\u00a0Jordan Tuner (Halle Berry) takes a frantic call from kidnapped Casey Welson (Abigail Breslin) and realizes her kidnapper is the same murderer she encountered before. \u00a0It&#8217;s a race against time to find him before he strikes again.<\/p>\n<p>Abigail Breslin does what she can, but the role doesn&#8217;t require her to do much besides occasionally scream.<\/p>\n<p>Halle Berry was nominated for a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Razzie\">Razzie<\/a>, but for the most part she gives a fine performance, she simply can&#8217;t overcome the script&#8217;s deficiencies. In the\u00a0final act, Jordan leaves the 911 call center and morphs into a hybrid of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nancy_Drew\">Nancy Drew<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lara_Croft\">Lara Croft<\/a>, as if the writers couldn&#8217;t be bothered to continue with the character they had written because they had a vision for\u00a0a kick ass\u00a0ending which trumped the constraints of good storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>A decent, mindless action movie, this is an effective thriller with a somewhat fresh perspective, until the laughable and uninspired final act.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tenkmovies.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/04\/mortified-nation.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-738 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/tenkmovies.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/04\/mortified-nation.png\" alt=\"Mortified Nation (2013)\" width=\"185\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt2281365\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1\">Mortified Nation<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(2013)<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes in the late 1990s, Dave Nadelberg read his teenage love letters to\u00a0a group of college friends. Their response was so strong, he organized readings for others to share their journals and high school diaries.\u00a0Before long, organized\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.getmortified.com\/about\/\">Mortified<\/a>\u00a0readings sprang up in theaters all over the country.<\/p>\n<p>This documentary features footage from several of the shows along with interviews of\u00a0the performers and their families who often feature prominently in their tortured attempts to understand their lives.<\/p>\n<p>This film is awkward and uncomfortable, especially the graphic descriptions of sexual exploits and secret yearnings.
