Wayne’s World 2<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(1993)<\/p>\n Good movies based on Saturday Night Live<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>sketches\u00a0are rare. Like\u00a0turning a short story into a 1000 page novel, the entire nature of the work has to change.<\/p>\n The few successful SNL<\/em> movies are based on strong characters, like Jake and Elwood Blues<\/a>, or Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar<\/a>, and not awkward situations like\u00a0androgynous people looking for restrooms<\/a>, or\u00a0two losers trying to pick up women<\/a>.<\/p>\n I loved Wayne’s World\u00a0<\/em>(1992), but this film attempts an unprecedented feat, a successful sequel to an\u00a0SNL <\/em>film.\u00a0It has a few highlights, including an inspired\u00a0vision of Jim Morrison<\/a>\u00a0as a desert shaman, but it’s too disjointed and derivative.\u00a0Wayne struggling in his relationship with Cassandra, three endings, and bowing in reference to a beloved 80s rocker were the tricks from the last film.\u00a0You can trot out the same jokes and beats on SNL, <\/em>where a skit only has to be funny for five minutes, but you can’t do it for ninety minutes, no way!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Wayne’s World 2\u00a0(1993) Good movies based on Saturday Night Live\u00a0sketches\u00a0are rare.
